Writing a Business Proposal

A business proposal is nothing more than an ad. In a business proposal, you are trying to sell a product or service to a potential customer. A business proposal should include:

1. A friendly, professional greeting.

2. An introduction to you and your business.

3. How you're familiar with the people or businesses you are writing to.

We switched the order of #2 and #3 below. Play with your letter to see what works.

4. A description of what your business can do for them.

Include prices and pictures, or samples of products. We often bring balloon flowers or balloon

animals with us. They get attention fast.

5. References from other customers, if you have any.

When a customer says something nice about you or your work, that is a reference. References

are very valuable.

6. Your contact information.

For safety reasons, we never put our telephone number or address on our business cards or on

this website, and we like to use our email when we do business. For kid entrepreneurs, email

makes more sense than the telephone. After all, we cannot answer the phone when we are at

school!

7. A call to action, and a postive closing.

A 'call to action' tells the person you are writing to do something with your business proposal.

Please email us! Call us today!

Here is an example of a business proposal we might have hand delivered to pediatric dentist Roya Pilcher in Washington, D.C., with a few balloon samples. When we wrote and delivered our original proposal to her, we did not have a website, and we had no decoration references.

Dr. Pilcher has been a regular Balloon Zoom customer since we decorated her office for Valentine's Day in 2012.

Dear Dr. Pilcher,

We are writing you because we know that you are a pediatric dentist who tries to bring a little

fun into her office and her patients' lives, and we can help you take that fun to a new level!

Our business, Balloon Zoom, specializes in balloons to please children from ages 5 to 105.

We have been your patients for a long time, and we have learned how your office works. With that

in mind, we are proposing two Balloon Zoom services we think you may like.

1. Balloon Flower Delivery

We can deliver beautiful vases filled with balloon flowers to liven up your office on a regular

basis. We can deliver weekly, monthly, or on a schedule you choose. Our balloon bouquets starts at

$___.

2. Holiday Decorating

Balloon Zoom can twist holiday balloon decorations for your front desk, waiting room, and

examining rooms, or create special balloon columns that will brighten your whole office.

Twisted balloon decorations (four-leaf clovers for St. Patrick’s Day, bunnies and bumblebees for Easter, red and white flowers in blue vases for July 4th, fat pumpkins for Halloween . . .) are

$ _____ .

Custom-designed balloon columns for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, July 4th, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hannukah, are $____ each.

Please take a look at Balloon Zoom's website (www.balloonzoom.com) and email us to talk

about our ideas — or your own. We can be reached at balloonzoom@gmail.com. Balloon Zoom is

happy to give you references.

We look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Anna
